Overview
At a broadcast and software solutions company, I planned a smart-glasses-based AI solution targeting incident investigation in firefighting and industrial safety, to find new markets for the company’s existing technology.
Problem
Incident investigation in firefighting and industrial safety relied on handwritten notes and verbal reports, which limited both accuracy and speed. The company needed a new market to apply its Vision AI technology.
Approach
I defined field pain points through in-depth interviews with active firefighters and designed the user flow. I then estimated domestic and global market size, analyzed competitors, and sourced 3 technology partners to build the Vision AI features, then finalized the business model and entry strategy.
Results
Developed an entry strategy for a domestic target market of about KRW 30 billion, ran a 3rd-round PoC pilot with a public enterprise, and validated customer needs and the user flow by presenting the solution concept to active firefighters.
Lessons Learned
A new business that involves hardware can’t be worked out at a desk without field interviews. The insight real users give you in one hour beats two months of research.
